  • Excellent communication and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Amtrak’s engineering and safety standards.
  • Certification as an Engineer in Training (EIT) or Project Management Professional (PMP).

  • Ability to travel to project sites as needed to support field operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare, review, and maintain engineering documents including drawings, specifications, and contract plans.
  • Coordinate with project managers, field engineers, and contractors to track project progress and resolve technical issues.
  • Manage project submittals, requests for information (RFIs), and change orders to ensure timely processing and documentation.
  • Maintain accurate project records, including daily reports, correspondence, and cost tracking.
  • Assist in the preparation of project schedules, budgets, and progress reports to support effective project management.
  • Ensure compliance with Amtrak standards, safety regulations, and federal railroad administration requirements.
  • Support the procurement process by reviewing vendor documentation and coordinating material deliveries.

Skills:

The Office Engineer utilizes technical skills such as proficiency in AutoCAD to review and update engineering drawings daily, ensuring accuracy and compliance with project requirements. Strong organizational skills are essential for managing extensive project documentation, including submittals and RFIs, which are critical for maintaining project timelines and budgets. Communication skills are employed to coordinate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, including engineers, contractors, and project managers, facilitating problem-solving and decision-making. Analytical skills support the review of cost estimates and schedules, enabling the Office Engineer to identify potential risks and recommend corrective actions.
