A few of the "suspects"

Rachel’s birthday is October 10, and this year she wanted to have a special gathering with family and friends.   Her wish came true this weekend with a themed birthday party – a  Murder Mystery that took place on the Titanic with a lovely high tea served on vintage floral patterned china.  Eight guests were randomly selected to become “suspect” characters in the mystery and were given real names of Titanic passengers, a profile description and a  script to read out to the group.  Once all eight people told their stories, it was up to the entire group to figure out “who done it.”  The plot of the mystery was carried out throughout the afternoon, only stopping for high tea, birthday cake and short breaks to think about the story lines. 

Scrapping on the Spot created a vintage scrapbook to compliment the theme using rose-patterned motifs decorated with a variety of embellishments using lace, velvet and other accents.  Note cards were created for many pages and were signed with special happy birthday wishes.   “Suspects” were displayed in a two-page picture gallery with each picture affixed to a profile description card.  The very  last page displayed replica copies of actual Titanic postcards and photos.  The front cover of the velvet covered scrapbook set the stage of the theme with a collage of vintage style embellishments.

Oh …. we won’t tell you who actually “did it,” but we WILL tell you that it was a lovely affair and that Rachel achieved her goal of making this year’s 10-10-10 birthday, one that would definitely be remembered.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY RACHEL — we wish you many more years of happiness and memorable celebrations!

Life moved quickly on.  Many of us went to college, many of us married and had children, and for some us, working just seemed to consume every extra minute we had.  It wasn’t until a special occasion or holiday arrived that we actually stopped and enjoyed life’s joys reflecting on the good times we’ve already experienced … remembering our own wedding day vows while attending a wedding celebration, recalling the joy of seeing our children blow out their first birthday candle, or smiling at the thought of all of those great times at the family’s annual picnic.

Life is filled with so many memories.  Can we possibly guess how many memories we’d have by time we turned 30?  Or 40?  Or maybe even 50?  The number could well be into the millions.  So just imagine how many memories you would have at the age of 90.

We really tried to imagine this as we prepared our Event Scrapbook during Angela’s 90th birthday celebration this month.  The room was filled with nearly 60 people consisting of children, grandchildren great grandchildren and close family friends.  What could she be remembering about each of them?  We couldn’t even guess  the number of weddings, baptisms, birthday parties or special occasions that she would have been a major part of.

But one thing was very clear — the love they have for each other was very deep and the tribute they paid to Angela was truly remarkable.  We not only captured a special moment for them through our scrapbooking on that special day, we added a beautiful new memory to our own collection.
